He's got your back....

I am a small and precious child, my daddys been sent to fight...
The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night.
He will be gone too many days
For my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud.
My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother.
My son may go to war...
My mind is filled with worries, that I have never known before
Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud.
My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack...
My heart may break, but I am proud.
My husbands got your back...

I am a Marine...
Serving Proudly, standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.
I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Say a prayer that I'll come home.
It's me who's got your back.

One last visit....
Last weekend, PJ flew up to Seattle to visit before he deploys again. He arrived on Thursday night and we spent Friday tying up a few loose ends before he leaves. We took Makena to the Everett Children's Museum which by the way was AWESOME! I'll post photos later. I have recently taken most of my photos off of my computer and put them on discs so that my computer isn't so full of photos. It's running much better. Anyhoo- we had lots of fun on Friday. PJ and I made dinner on Friday night for my family. We had pasta and crab stuffed mushrooms. PJ's pasta dish was very very spicy, but it had amazing flavor! The stuffed mushrooms were delectable and all was good. Friday night we were hit with a hard storm and around 3am the power went out. We live in densely wooded area so it's not completely uncommon during a windstorm to lose power for a day or two. The response time has become better with the power company in recent years with the expansion of more homes in our area. Luckily by 10 or 11am the power came back on. PJ and I left for Seattle and some shopping. Makena was having a day with Grandma and Grandpa.

We first hit Bellevue Square, where PJ took me to Coach for an anniversary gift. I got this purse in black and LOVE it. It's much larger than my other black purse. I was on the fence if I wanted it in Brown/White or Black. But since black goes with almost everything I thought that would be pretty good. I'll have to get a white purse for the spring though. I'm thinking of this one. But we'll see. Then we shopped around for some other clothes and misc. items for us and then headed to Seattle where we stayed at the Edgewater. We had a wonderful dinner at 'The Met'. Chateaubriand, then met up with my friend Leslie and her boyfriend Zack. The four of us went to the Highway 99 Blues Club and had a great time. The company was great and the entertainment was exciting.

Sunday - Superbowl for the Seahawks of course! We headed back to my family's house and PJ made his famous chili. Too bad the Seahawks lost :( - not that I can't complain about some of the calls of course!

Monday was a difficult day. We pretty much spent it lounging around and hanging out. PJ had to be at the airport around 4pm. Saying good-bye was difficult this time. Well it's always difficult. It was more difficult for Makena than it has been in the past. She understands that PJ is leaving now and they have become even closer in the past year. We had him home for exactly a year. He arrived home on Feb 6 last year and left on Feb 6th from Seattle this year. :(

It was finally time for PJ to go through Security. We said our good-byes then Makena had to say good-bye to PJ. I was forced to hold myself together, because I could see it was going to be hard for Makena. We kept telling Makena that PJ would come back when she was in Kindegarten. She'll be 5 1/4 when he comes home (hopefully it won't be longer than that). She gave him one last hug and I had to pull her off of him. She was screaming like I hadn't seen her done with him before. She didn't want to let go. She was sobbing hysterically and couldn't get control of herself. It was very difficult not to lose it myself. We stood there and watched him go through security. He turned around looked to Makena and pointed to his eye, then to his heart then to her. They've always done this with each other, they do this to say... "I Love You".

Seattle Bound - Our trip from San Diego to Seattle
We are finally settling in YAYYY!!

So much to tell.

Well, first - our trip was very fun. Grandpa came down to San Diego, we picked him up from the Ontario airport. We spent all day Saturday *Jan 14th* packing up and getting ready for the big trip. We intended on leaving by 4:30am on Sunday but it just wasn't happening. There was too much to do to get PJ set up so the house was 'decent' for him. We slept in until 6am and spend 4 hours preparing to leave. We hit the road around 10am for breakfast and officially left Oceanside at about 11:15am on Sunday January 14th.

We headed north and made good time, making it up to Sacramento. With intentions of heading north towards Eugene Oregon we decided instead we'd spend Monday January 15th running around. We drove to Pittsburg, where we had a house when I was just about Makena's age. Those are some of my earliest memories from my childhood. I vaguely remember the house - it looks much different now. The owners at some point (someone) has built a fence enclosing the front yard. After that we headed to the grocery store to get some snacks. My dad bought some fresh soy bean pods. They were so yummy.... UNTIL I had an allergic reaction! I started coughing, my chest was burning and my body was itching. Then my throat was itching and it was really difficult to breath. It was actually very scary for a little bit. I did have some Benedryl in the car from our medicine bag - so I took a couple of those and it made it much better. It was very odd at my age to find that I'm allergic to something in a raw form rather than processed like Soy Sauce etc...

Then we went to the famous Golden Gate Park. Ahhh- the memories! I remember going there as a child and going down the long concrete slides. It was so much fun to take Makena to experience the places that I went as a young child.

We headed back to Sacramento and then just north. On Tuesday we needed to high-tail it to Portland because my dad needed to be there for a business meeting the next morning. We bought chains for the tires since we were going through the pass and headed north. By early evening we were in Portland.

The next day I spent driving around, shopping and met up for lunch with one of PJ's good friends from the military. John is a police officer in a near town of Portland. It was great to have lunch with him and catch up. Makena had a blast.

Thursday morning we packed up and headed towards Seattle. Of course I wanted to stop in Lacey, just north of Olympia to go to Shipwreck Beads. I only bought a few things. Their prices are fairly high from what I'm used to but it was fun to see all of their items and their HUGE store. Lots of goodies there.

We arrived home and settled in. That evening my mom flew in town. She was away on a trip to Italy with her friend Susan. We were all very excited to meet up and finally see each other. Marc (my brother) came over and we all had dinner together.

We are here, we are finally 'home' in Seattle- I forgot how much I missed the beautiful green, tall trees and the snow-capped mountains in the distance.

Fresh, cool air. :)
