San Clemente - I LOVE this place!

I'm just going through some photos on my camera that I haven't uploaded and found these. 2 weeks ago we went up to one of our favorite places, San Clemente! It's north of us by about 20 miles and just like paradise! We love it. We love to eat at Fisherman's Wharf on the pier. Crab, Lobster, Oysters it's just like heaven.
If I ever complain about the cost of living in California and that the median price of a decent home in a 'safe' neighborhood is upwards of $500K PLEASE remind me of these pictures! This is the gorgeous place we live- and I LOVE IT!!!
I try to get down to Makena's level and see what she can see-.

Cloudy sky & breaks of sun
Here it is on Friday (it seems that's when I have time to update the blog)- it's been a very long but fast week. I have a pile of papers here that I feel like I haven't had time to get through and things stacking up at my 'regular' job. Things always seem a little 'off' when PJ is in the field and w/ the constant pending departure (which we still don't know if he's going) it's kept me feeling a bit 'lop-sided' if you will. LOL.

I have some FABULOUS news though- Makena, who most of you know turned 4 in June and has always been really REALLY small (this summer wearing 18-24months)... grew a WHOPPING 1.5" this summer! I can't believe it! She is getting so tall- but not much bigger. She also gained some weight. She's about 27lbs now! WOW- maybe by the time she is in 3rd grade she'll be out of her toddler seat. j/k But yes, this is a huge deal for us when we thought she'd never grow she is finally growing, AND getting a bigger appetite. There are days when she can eat a large fillet of salmon, green beans, rice and a glass of milk and I wonder where she keeps it all.

She is also very much into dancing right now as well. We caught the tail end of 'So you think you can dance' and she put on her new swimsuit Grandma sent and twirled, did the splits and begged to be dipped. She prefers, Spin, Spin, Spin, Jump- do the splits in the air, spin again, and dip. That is pretty much her routine... It's rather cute. But also so amazing how she just zones into the tv and gets so excited about the dancing. She is surely growing up and likes to tell me that all the time.

Most recently we've had some 'issues' with being sassy which is common at 4yrs old especially for little girls. So we're working on the attitude and also the selective hearing. Which absolutely has to be a trait she got from her daddy. So we've created the 'Magic Bean Bowl'. We have these magical large lima beans that once they are filled up in the bowl a toy will appear. She makes wishes into the bowl for a pink ballerina. So far the bowl is 1/3 filled. She earns a bean everytime she does something the first time w/out asking. And if she goes straight to bed & doesn't get up again, she gets 2 beans and a handful is she sleeps in her own bed ALL night.

Big plans for the weekend are to spend family time together and work on jewelry orders. Keepin' busy. Have to ship out some beads and spend lots of time together.

Have a great weekend. I'm going to try and post some updated jewelry.

Best,
Mary

Katrina Katrina Katrina- oh crazy storm Katrina!
Well, I think the effects of the storm are just devastating! I feel so blessed to be in my house, safe and warm (cold when it's too hot), with my family by my side. Food in my fridge and all the comforts of home. I've donated 'Still Pond' a bracelet inspired by Monet's "Waterlillies" painting to : http://imageevent.com/tascha/katrinareliefeffort where there is a silent auction underway to benefit survivors of Katrina. I sent in my donation this morning, so I'm not sure how long it will take to get up there, but the starting bid was only $25 on a bracelet valued at $80! So- if you've had your eyes on this have a look. This is a good time to get your hands on a one-of-a-kind lampwork and Swarovski bracelet and have the funds go to such a great cause.

In addition to the Katrina disaster, while we are okay here in Sunny San Diego... it is touching us personally as PJ's battalion was activated to go help the relief efforts in the south. We've been told he'll be gone 30-120 days. (Nice window of time huh?) but I suspect it will err on the sooner time frame as they have to qualify for missions before they can deploy to Iraq/Afghanistan (or wherever they go) in January/February. That said I'm sure someone will push to get our boys home so they are prepared when they leave on deployment. Going to the south to assist in clean-up efforts will not delay or change their upcoming deployment. hmpphh :( Oh well, such is the life of a military family :)

Back to cleanin' the house and getting laundry done. I'm going to get my toes done this morning (a little treat for myself!)

Hugs!
